Post-Doctoral Fellow

Soyoung Lee is an America in the World Post-Doctoral Fellow at Duke University. She received her Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2023 and will be joining Yale University as an Assistant Professor of Political Science in July 2024.

Soyoung studies International Relations, with a focus on why states and their citizens are willing to engage in costly conflict over some international issues but not others. Her book project “National Interest in International Relations: Domestic Distributional Consequences and Constraints to Conflict” combines survey experiments, geospatial analysis of territorial claims, qualitative case studies, and text analysis of political rhetoric to support a novel theory of national interest. Broadly, she is interested in the interplay between domestic politics and international conflict. Her ongoing projects include research on international rivalries, history education, and alliance politics.
