Sowon Park

Postdoctoral Fellow

Sowon Park is an America in the World Consortium Postdoctoral Fellow at Duke University. Her research focuses on international security, U.S. foreign policy, legislative behavior, public opinion, and political psychology. In her dissertation, titled “Beyond the Party Line: Ideological Heterogeneity in Foreign Policy Preferences,” she investigates the ideological nature of foreign policy preferences among legislators and the mass public, and how ideology introduces significant heterogeneity into domestic debates on American foreign policy beyond simple partisan divisions. She also explores the impacts of such contentious domestic debates on the dynamics of interstate bargaining.

She received her Ph.D. in Politics from the University of Virginia and her M.A. from Seoul National University. Before joining the AWC, she was a graduate fellow at the National Security Policy Center in the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia.
