John Q. Bolton is a U.S. Army Officer pursuing a Ph.D. in American Foreign Policy at Johns Hopkins SAIS (Advisor: Hal Brands). He speaks Mandarin and is a Senior Army Aviator. He has served in numerous locations including Ft. Riley, Kansas, Alaska, and Hawaii. He has deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq multiple times as an Engineer, Aviator, and staff officer, and commanded an aviation detachment in Thailand. 

He has received several military awards including the Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge. He was the 2015 Command and General Staff College’s Distinguished Graduate and an Olmsted Scholar. His academic research focuses on military force development and US policy in the Pacific.
