AWC Assesses “American Grand Strategy in the Shadow of War”

Last month, the America in the World Consortium’s team of scholar-practitioners from Duke University, Johns Hopkins SAIS, and the University of Texas at Austin hosted the fourth iteration of the AWC Annual Policy Conference. This year, the Consortium convened at the Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, Virginia to bring together experts from academia and the policy world at a venue just outside Washington, D.C.

In line with AWC’s mission to better prepare the next generation to confront geopolitical challenges and understand the advancement of American national interests abroad, the conference tackled the subject of “American Grand Strategy in the Shadow of War” through a series of expert panels and keynotes.

Dr. Will Inboden, AWC’s Principal at the University of Texas at Austin, kicked off the gathering with a conversation with the Honorable Stephen Biegun, Former United States Deputy Secretary of State and U.S. Special Representative for North Korea.

AWC was also honored to host Director Salman Ahmed, the United States Director of Policy Planning at the United States Department of State, who participated in a discussion with AWC’s Principal at Johns Hopkins SAIS, Dr. Hal Brands.

Throughout the conference, expert panels discussed a variety of national and global matters affecting U.S. foreign policy and the broader international order.
