2025 Fellows Writing Workshop

On January 16-17, the America in the World Consortium convened our pre- and post-doctoral fellows in Durham, North Carolina for a workshop at Duke University.

The fellows enjoyed a dinner with Duke Faculty, including Peter Feaver, AWC PI, Susan Colbourn, Simon Miles, and Rachel Myrick. AWC-Duke Fellow Caileigh Glenn moderated a conversation between Peter Feaver and Austin Carson, from the University of Chicago.

During the full day Austin Carson is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago. His research addresses the role of secrecy and intelligence in International Relations theory, international conflict, and global governance. He is the author of two books:  Secret Wars: Covert Conflict in International Politics (Princeton University Press, 2018) and Secrets in Global Governance: Disclosure Dilemmas and the Challenge of International Cooperation (Cambridge University Press, 2020, coauthored with Allison Carnegie). He has published articles in International Organization, American Journal of Political Science, Security Studies, and other venues. He is also co-editor of Cornell University Press’s Studies in Security Affairs Series.

The full-day workshop focused on the future of security studies, ranging from methodological studies to the practical realities of publishing. The workshop included a panel between Peter Feaver, AWC PI and Duke University professor, and Austin Carson, from the University of Chicago.
